  • It was a nice Trip, weather cooperated for the most part. Basically saw a little bit of everything, except snow.

I saw Friends and family, enjoyed the drive, and the Yellow Sub did well. Amazing how the gas prices are so much less outside of California. I had clear skies on Hwy 84 along the Columbia river gorge, Traffic in Portland still sucks... After seeing my oldest, I enjoyed driving down Hwy 5 stopping to visit friends who live up there now. I made my way down to Chico and saw the youngest son, and did a little work on the house there. Hopefully , I have found the last leak in the irrigation system? I was home before Mother's day and helped the misses celebrate.

But there are a few things that need attention, the rebuilt Speedometer quit working in Sacramento on the drive out. Odometer and the Cruise control kept working and GPS on the phone covered any concerns. The unit has been sent to the Vendor in Utah twice now and I'm not sending it back... I have a local guy in Cupertino that fixed the my 2002 Superduty who says he can do the repairs. I see him Tuesday.
I didn't need the new AC until I got to Oregon, I used it for 3 hours before I started hearing a noise from the compressor. The shop that did the Evac and pressurization has heard the noise and wants to throw a guage set on it to make sure the high side is not too high. If it is not, then it is a compressor issue. The company that I purchased it from has been slow to respond to my preliminary phone call and now emails...
And it appears that the new harmonic balancer seal has failed, there is an oil leak that was not there previously. I think if I get it on the rack, that I can pull it off without tearing down the whole front on the Bronco. That Super cooling Brass Rad is not light by any measure.

All' n all a great trip... Some random shots below: gas prices in ID, Hwy 84, Sunrise on Hwy 5, Stop at the Weed, Ca rest stop with Mount Shasta, And the ongoing irrigation repairs in Chico. (Former owners had no idea why some of the irrigation zones didn't work...)

    • One thing checked off the list... Speedo was repaired. Used the Mobile Guy Kris, based out of Cupertino, but he said he goes north and south bay. Not to the East Bay and has limits how far he goes west.

Kris is character... I showed up at a 11am and we were done at Noon. That included a few test runs, the last was with his GPS. The Bottom end of my Speedo is spot on, the Top is still reading slow. But it works now and it was the best he could do. There were some internal parts replaced and a couple of bench tests on his equipment. I was happy to spend the $80, and I did most of the dash disassembly to make things easy for both of us. The previous Vendor's sticker was on my cluster, comments were made. I was much happier with this result and seeing the work being done, rather than shipping my Cluster off, paying shipping twice (which I have done already), having my cluster being damaged in shipping by uncaring shippers. Easy for me to recommend Kris's work.

AC is being looked at today, hopefully we will have a determination whether it is the compressor or if the high side is too high. AC Vendor has not responded to me yet and it has been 9 days...

      • Updates -

I replaced the harmonic balancer seal and the new one came out in two pieces. Hoping this is the last time. Tried to find a seal not made overseas, but that is just about impossible these days.

AC Vender after 3 weeks, I found a way to talk to someone, only to learn the two folks I dealt with in Florida no longer work for the company WTF...

A replacement AC compressor was sent and installed... And it makes the same Damn noise. I don't think the Tech guy has any hair left.
I sent all the data they requested and have been waiting for a reply for a week now. He was consulting with the most experienced Tech guy they had. Video clips of pressures sent, audio of noises... which sound like the reed valves in the back of the compressor?

Progress has been slow, with the hot weather and a two week road trip up into Oregon and now back in Chico, I haven't spent a lot of time on the Yellow Sub.

          • The AC latest news...

The Company is sending another Compressor (Sanden), Drier/receiver/filter, expansion valve, and all related components: seals, clamps, oil, refrig tape, etc. ON Their Dime.

They want me to change it all out for fresh... And they told me they are going to revise the Kit that I bought, it will not be available in its current form.

I am happy they are providing the support finally, but not wanting to redo this new AC system again.

              • Well new compressor, expansion valve, and receiver/drier has been installed. Evac and recharge is scheduled for next Tuesday.

And they gave me a real Sanden compressor, not a knock-off

All parts installed, and it makes a different noise... Called the Company and they never responded back. Still blows cold air, so I am running with it...

                  • And for those of you that still frequent this Site, the Yellow Sub will be on display at SEMA this year highlighting Modern Driveline's Tremec 5-spd conversion kit for 78-79 Broncos and 73-79 f150 trucks. I am very honored that they picked me... I am driving it there and back, which will add to the memories.

Does he make a bolt on kit for the 79 bronco or is it a weld on kit?
