  • Pit Bull Tires - Wide Arse Rocker or Narrower Mad Dog

Anyone able to give me info on how different these 2 tires run? I am looking to get one or the other but havent heard much about the Mad Dog line, not sure if thats cause they are poor or just not as popular. Done a bunch of searching on pirate but havent found a lot of info on that line. I like the sizing on them much better than the Rockers but really dont want to go to a 16.5" wide tire. Looking at the 39/1450/15 Mad Dogs and the 39.5/16.50/15 Rockers or if I want a little narrower there is the 42x15x15 Rockers but that 40" barrier is a bit scary. I know I need to go bigger with my setup, just dont know how far is too far. Currently running 36/1350/15 Iroks. I am geared about as low as I want to go with my 9" at 5.13s and running RCVs in the HP44. crawl with the ZF, 203/205 5.13s is about 120:1.
Looking to make an order this week.

I like the look of the wide Rockers and the extra contact patch for grip, but that is a damn wide tire on 1/2 ton axles. Even with beefed up 1/2 ton-ers. I don't know much about the Maddogs.

Rockers have greatttt reviews.. I have 37x14.5 on a 12.5" wide Beadlocked rim.. I Love the look.. wider is better..

For cost & sizing I think I'm going to run with a set of the 39.5x 13.5x 15 Iroks on the 68. I'm going to run this first set on some cheapo 15x8" DIY beadlocked wagon wheels though and form some opinions from there after wheeling a season or two back home. That's just about as far as I think I wanna push my 1/2 ton stuff.

Thats part of the plan, I am not too crazy with the throttle but really could use some more clearance (and some bump stops) to allow for the traction to happen, my breakover angle sucks right now and I dont want to go taller with lift.

How are bias Pitbull tires on the street? Any good? Or should they be used as trail-only tires?

I agree, more throttle=more traction. Awe crap, I guess I misread what you wrote.

I'm curious about the effect of wide tires on your steering. Assuming backspacing is the same, does a much wider tire change the steering effort discernably? Do you notice more side-to-side motion when you steer while not moving?

From my experience the wider tire definitely has an effect on steering. I assume if I go to the wide rockers I might want to upgrade my explorer pump as it's giving all it can right now.

I just noticed that the big big rockers aren't as wide. My vote is for 42x15 rockers. Did you notice that the new radials are only for 16.5+" rims. so if you went 41x13.5 rocker radials, you would either need recentered H1s or some new 17" rims.

They will have them for 15s too soon, they are in process. Should ask if there is a 39.5 radial in the works as well.
