  • 71 LUBR Partial Restore

So I was looking for a classic vehicle to build the way I wanted it and use as a daily driver, I eventually settled on a Bronco while I was looking at a 68 Mustang Fastback. Unfortunately the person I had working on it is/was of questionable ability, but could talk with a silver tongue, thank god I'm no longer working with him. It's two years later I finally have my Bronco in my garage, albeit un-driveable. Until I got it home I didn't realize how bad it was, shame on me, new learning experience, I ended up focusing on upgrades vs having the body and electrical properly done being none the wiser on the actual condition of the vehicle.

Anyway, what I have for you today is my current work in process. In a couple of months it's going to a new place to get it's body cleaned up, panels aligned properly, possibly a new roll cage (dont like the current one) and maybe some other goodies.

What has been done so far:
Paint - Grabber Blue - single stage, although I would like to get it painted metallic blue with a nice clear. Top is white, but will end up silver or metallic charcoal at some point.
Wheels - 15" Method Race Wheels - Hole
Bilstein 2.5 inch lift form Wild Horses
    Front Disk Brake kit
    Holley Terminator EFI
    MSD Ignition
    Power steering
    BFG TA KO2 Tires
    Push button start
    Proximity key-less entry and alarm
    Electric locks

    What needs to be done:
Body needs to be gone over for problems/fixes, panels/welding, etc. - some respray too I'm sure
Electrical should be re-done, thinking a Painless harness, new switches, etc., clean up everything. The original joker tried to fit the EFI, ECU, Ignition etc. under the dash, it needs to be redone.
All Rubbers need to be replaced under body and in steering
Transmission and transfer case need to be tested
Transmission has a minor leak, although nothing on my garage floor, same for the rear end.
Shift linkage needs to be installed
Kick panels need to be replaced
Windshield wiper system needs to be installed

    What I would like:
    A Dave Virga Paint Job
    NV4500 Tranny
    Twin Sticks for transfer case
    Vintage Air
    Engine rebuilt
    Edlebrock top end kit
    Full roof size roof rack
TBP deluxe front/rear seats and panels recovered in black waterproof Alcantera with a Grabber Blue double-diamond stitch patern.
    Some lighting
    Upgraded guage

    -Stuart

Looks like a solid rig to start with. Sorry to hear that you had to deal with shyster! That’s one of the reasons I work on my own cars.
    I’ll be watching your progress.
    Good luck.

        That's a great looking Bronco!
Moving past your bad experiences, I think you'll end up with a solid rig. I am happy to see another LUBR project underway - I would really like to build one someday as well. It all comes down to time and space - I don't have enough of either to tackle another serious build anytime soon...

Well Stuart you managed to figure out the Site's unique way of posting pictures. Hats off to you!

Quite the transformation, but a solid base that just needs some sorting... I will be watching your Progress.

Finally getting some traction on this project again. Today I put on a new BC Broncos 2-1 exhaust, including headers, some new headlight lenses with LED's and grill letters.

Also, its going to Dave Virga in the next week or 2 to get drivable and a roll cage. Then off to get wiring done....Phew!Click image for larger version

Change of plans again. Was supposed to be going to Cage Dave first, but after trying to get the engine running (EFI) after 7-8 months of not running, I found wiring issues due to a really old harness, cracking I assume. It's going in for a new harness and other stuff on Aug. 15, then off to Dave to get driveable.

That looks real nice. Did you have your original rebuilt? Or is this a new aftermarket one?

I actually found it on ebay from a guy in Texas. I'm sending him my old one for a discount. This is a refurb gauge and was only $275 before trade.

That's a great deal! I paid Kevin over $400 to redo mine.
