We are the 4th owners of this 1968 Bronco, it was originally sold by Gaudin Ford, Las Vegas NV (Dealership is still there) then it came to Livermore in 1970. We purchased it 3 yrs ago, running, but ready for some TLC. 289 w/A/C , but 3rd owner took A/C unit out : (
We have a 347 stroker w/tranny, plan was put that in and add AC. Then also thinking about EFI. Things evolved into purchasing a 2014
F-150 Coyote motor with its 6R80 tranny. 9k miles.
This build is taking longer and cost more than we ever dreamed. And is much more frustrating than anticipated.
Some of the parts needed for transformation:
Ford Performance stand alone wiring harness & computer for Coyote (We got the wiring harness and computer w/the motor and tranny, but its not stand alone. Its For Sale! if anyone needs one)
Performance automatic stand alone 6R80 transmission controller (these are new on the market, we were able to get one of the first ones)
Special adapter to connect the transmission to the transfer case. This is only made by Tumblin Automotive and cost $1,000.!!!! Other parts purchased from Tumblin: Headers, motor mounts, & transmission mount.
The coyote motor does not have a power steering pump, Tumblin makes one ($1000.) but we sent it back. The "Vintage air front runner kit" was easier to use since we added vintage air AC.
Don't forget all these components need to talk to each other. Hundreds of hours in just wiring alone. Check/test each system as its installed, otherwise you will get to the end and it wont work or you will fry something and wont know why.
All these companies readily sell you their products, but send no instructions or mis-instructions. Countless hours spent trying to figure stuff out, on the phone, on hold. Sometimes with results & sometimes just figuring it out yourself.
This build is not for the faint of heart or someone with a budget constraint. I now understand why these sell for over $100K !!! Nothing fits or works, even when you buy a so called kit, everything has to be adapted or modified.
If anyone is going to do this we are happy to pass on info
