  • Earlybronco72's slow project

Time I actually posted a little about what I have been building. What seems like forever ago I bought a Trent fab starter chassis to build a buggy. Nice piece. While I was waiting forever for them to get me my piece I disassembled my 72 that I had been wheeling for around 14 years. I cut down the frame to be about three feet long, keeping the rear suspension mounts and enough frame to mount my radius arms right into the end of the frame. Still has the vin on the frame. This gives me a 108" WB. I then set the engine trany and t-case in 9" back from where it originally was and reinstalled the original crossmember. 17 weeks later the starter chassis showed up and I married the two together. I then proceeded to add a ton of tubing to fill out the chassis. When that was done I built a floor structure out of 1" sq tubing, and skinned it with aluminum. As of late I have mounted the drivers seat/harness, hung the pedals and master cylinder. Getting down to a short list to get it running. Have plans to go to Moab in October. Specs are 302/435/20 9" and 44. 36" iroks and ORI's

Are you still going to be able to pull the front locker and ring gear out(if you need to) with that ram mount there? Looks pretty tight...

Yup, sure can, but it is really tight.

Here's the reason this is a slow project. He showed up shortly after the chassis did.

It's nice to have the option to use part of your frame for the rear suspension. Kind of like a Hendrix chassis for a toyota.

Put the struts on to see if everything cleared at full bump and rolled it out of the garage to do a little cleaning.
