  • Parts Cleaner - what solvent/cleaner to use

Need one for the shop, getting ready to do a lot of greasy work on the front & rear.

Is there a non-flammable product that anyone knows of that actually works in a recirculating parts washer type of thing?

if you're doing a lot of greasy stuff you could save some money on the solvent and use diesel

As much as I dislike the place, Harbor Freight has a pretty decent water-based solvent that I've used many many times. It works pretty well - comes in a 2-gallon bottle and its kind of purple in color. Smells a little like Castrol SuperClean.

I use Kerosene. In my shop I used Zep orange clean. This shit is awesome but a little spendy, but better than any other orange oil cleaners I have seen.

I use Kerosene allso with cans of Gunk to back it up. I have a old stainless dish washer sink for the parts tray. I have it out side and have to put a tarp over it every winter to keep the rain out. I have used this system for 20 years.

In a parts washer I usually use Castrol Super Clean or one of the many comparable degreasers.
If you ever come across a old dishwasher they work great for cleaning oily or greasy parts that fit in them. They are perfect for transfer cases, third members, and smaller transmissions. I used to have one in my shop but it finally gave out, I'm looking for another free one to replace it. My girlfriend, noe wife, really gave me a hard time because I had a dishwasher in my shop, but not in the kitchen

Come awn, you gotta love that place. Where else can you get a folding cherry picker for 150 bucks on half price sale? I bought the standing blasting case too and love it. Half price too. Hell, the Chinese need to eat too! Lol

I have a dishwasher inner shell that I was going to make into a sandblast box. It has the hole in the bottom and I was going to cover it with mesh so the sand fell out. Then put a plexyglass face on it. I doubt I will ever get to it but the idea was a good one.

HF has certain things worth buying... Their shop presses work well, cherry pickers seem to hoist engines just fine, and misc. other stuff that is ok, but overall you can't get me out of those places fast enough!
