    Re: Sanden on Explorer 5.0

Got it running temporarily this am. No radiator, but my new PSC p/s pump sure puts out! Nice...

Question, has anybody found an adapter or some way to change to AN fittings at the intake or pressure side of the Sanden so braided hose or any hose with a smaller OD can be used?

    TIA

I looked into it when I did mine, you can buy a AN o-ring fitting that allow you to adapt to standard AN, but then you need to use a second AN reducer fitting. It was going to cost way to much money for the fittings so I cut the ends off some hard ac lines and welded a 6 AN fitting into the tube. If you find a cheaper adapter let me know.

Conveniently, a/c threaded bosses use the same standard straight thread as flare fittings. I found some fittings on line that adapted the o-ring style bosses to 45° SAE flare. They were a few bucks apiece. I wanted to use JIC (37°) flare, so I chucked them in the lathe and changed the flare angle. Worked like a champ.

OK, found the link to the adapters:
        http://www.nostalgicairparts.com/ac/...dapters-81.php
Just have to decide which size you need (probably #8 or #10)

Since the adapters are brass, cutting the different angle was easy and it came out clean (brass is the standard for machineability).

          Re: Sanden on Explorer 5.0

I wanted to revive this thread to see how those Sanden Compressors are working for guys with the Explorer Setup? I went to picknpull and couldnt find the right one. However I can buy a new one online for around $100 which is still cheaper than trying to buy an electric compressor. It is the Sanden 8105. Does anyone know what kind of CFM you are getting out of those stock compressors? I know it varies by RPM's. But no one is going to fill there tires at 5000 RPM. So Im looking for around 800-1400 RPM's.
Also, did anyone else go a different route to block the oil from entering the lines other than taking the compressor apart?

I've been running the one I mentioned earlier in this thread that I pulled of an Escort I believe. I don't have it hooked up to anything right now but the serp belt is run around it. I pulled a second one off an early to mid 90's E-series w/ 5.8L. It is definately a Sanden 709, says right on it. Same exact bolt pattern as the Escort comp I have bolted to my Explorer serp.

Mine is going on 5 years now. I don't use it a lot, but when I do it gets a workout. One time I got it so hot that I figured it was doomed- the same treatment torched the stock Explorer (Visteon) compressor. That was probably after a year or so. Didn't faze it.

I never modified mine to keep oil in or out. I do have a machine tool oiler on the inlet.

                  Re: Sanden on Explorer 5.0

Thanks to Lars I made the switch over a year ago. I use it alot... besides filling tires, semi-truck air horn, air nailer, misc uses around the farm, it's worked great.

I did the grease mod, have an oiler in line and squirt a bit of oil into the intake line before anticipated heavy uses (can't hurt, it gets trapped on the output).

Good luck, they are hard to find. I have a spare and hope I never need it...puts out pretty good cfm at 1700rpm or so. No comparison to my old York at low rpm but works fine at higher rpm...

Thanks again Lars on the fitting tip!

Can somebody with this Sanden mod do a measurement for me. I have my engine out and am setting the location for my F150 4x4x2 box. I am trying to set it with all three bolts going through the frame and that raises the steering gear/box up pretty high...maybe too high to clear the sanden. Can anyone give me a measurement from the bottom of the sanden to the top of the frame. I am hoping it will fit...may not.

Hey Marlon, I don't have my Bronco handy at the moment but I'm running a 4x4x2 box with the forward bolt going through the stock bolt hole (back ones moved, using a BC Broncos scab plate). It clears the Sanden pump without being scary close. I can get a better measurement this weekend, but I think you'll be fine.

                        Thanks Lars!!

When you say "Scary close"...are you saying 1/2"...3/4"...about how much? I am not using
the stock forward/front lower bolt hole. But, I don't think I'm far from its original spot. Maybe a tad higher and a tad closer to the bumper. The two other holes are set as low (towards the bottom of the frame) as possible yet have both go through the frame and have the upper bolt's nut and washer clear the stock crossmember. See pic. I think it's gonna be close. Just have an opportunity to get that specific sanden at a good price...just hoping I can use it. Measurement not necessary. I don't think I'll really know until I try it. Thanks again. Marlon

Found this at PnP yesterday. Hopefully this is the right one. Came off a 91 F-250. I have been searching PnP for quite a few months now. $39

Im sure one of you guys can eyeball it and tell if it is correct.

Not sure what that piece is sticking out the back underneath the casting "FJ". Do I just plug it? Im doing the modification from http://www.grungle.com/endlessair.html
