  • Stock oil dipstick leak fix

I know a lot of people know this but with forums closing and photobucket ruining the internet I figured I would drop some old knowledge here for others to find.

The stock oil pan dipstick was a terrible design. The press in fitting always leaked.
I decided to finally fix it.

First was cutting the rivets that held on the plate to the pan.
pan. I flipped the plate around and welded bolts to the inside plate and enlarged the opening. I tack welded the plate to the pan from the inside. That way I am able to unbolt it and not need to fish around the oil pan for it.

Grabbed some brake line tubing from the store and some brass fittings

I cut the flared end and shoved about 3 inches into the pan and welded the steel tube. With the flare fitting on one end, I used Female x Female brass flare coupling.

for a gasket I used some old cork I had.

    Painted it Ford Blue.

Then I put the oilpan on my bench and leveled it off.
I added 5.5 quarts of water to it to get the depth that the dipstick needed to be.
Cut the other side of the brake line with the flare face down.

Bolted it to the motor to bend the tube and to weld a tab on the top that bolts to the header.

I have about 500 miles on it with no leaks.
Still have a leak on the bolts going through the crank.

Looks good man. I just redid mine on the Rock Rat, which is a 79 engine and pan. It was leaking too.
