  • full width axles?

Alright I just started looking into installing full width axles into my bronco. I want to put in fulll width dana 44 and 9 inch, but I wasn't sure what year truck/broncos to look for. What are the most common year truck/ bronco that you need to look for ? I was also wondering what needs to be done on the front axle regarding radius arms and steering? Thanks guys.

    76-78 F-150's F-250's

    78-79 Big Broncos

I am sure there are a lot more.

Try to find weld on C clips on the D44 High pinion is a plus. Lots of people use the big bronco axles. will swap in with a little work.

try to find a 77 f150 4x4. I think that is the only year that had welded cs, the good 9 inch and front disks. That year could also have granny low NP435/ NP205 and a nice power steering box and maybe even a tilt column. The rear springs are nice. And the drivelines might be useable.

I originally had all that stuff under my early bronco. I wish I would have just left it alone at that point.

Yup the 77 F150 or 77 FSB is the only year to have welded on C mounts onto a 44.

I believe the d44 prior to the 78 and 79 f150 and broncos had thicker tubes as well. I ran one out of a 73 f100 with cheby disk brakes, also you dont have to worry about not being able to move the wedges like the 78-79. Im also pretty sure all D44 c`s were welded on until 1978. good luck bro

'76 has the weld-on wedges as well. That makes it a piece of cake to just grind them off and move them in. If you end up with a 78/79 with cast wedges, you can move the coil buckets outboard, that's not too hard either. We have rigs at the shop that have been done both ways.

I used the 76 f150 for the welded "c" and disc brakes. It also has .500 thick tubes. by moving the Cs in a couple inches it gives you clearance on the radius arms to run bigger tires. I have seen people run the 78/79 cast Cs without moving the spring buckets out without any problems but the coils end up looking kinda like / \ . RD

Also, you cannot run long tube headers with a full width either. The driveline will interfere...

Hey guys thanks for all the great input. Just was wondering does something have to be done to the steering components to make it work? Thanks guys.

Your tie rod, drag link are longer. You will need to mess with the track bar as well.

You will buy or use the old tie rod that came with the HP44.
You will have to buy a new drag link.
If you don't have it allready doing the full width is the perfect time to upgrade to the Chevy steering.
