    It’s been awhile but if I remember right on the 74 I just removed the pin n it came out. From your pic it looks like the pin is already out.

      There appears to be some type of clip holding it in in the interior part of the column. I tried prying on in slightly with no luck, I don’t want to ruin the shift collar.

        Turns out the shifter was only held in by grime and bits of rubber

            Before I removed the steering column guts I did not have any problem with the inner 3/4 shaft sliding out when I pulled on the steering wheel, maybe the grime kept it together. Now the shaft slides out easily. I don’t have any room to put the shaft clamp back on (guess I cut the shaft too short). For now I just have 3 greased washers taking up the space between the ujoint and bottom bearing. This keeps the steering tight and doesn’t allow it to pull out. This is only so I can test the steering and do slow runs in front of the house. Is there any bearing or spacer that will work, or so I need a new longer shaft?
