I just ordered fox racing 14 inch coil over shocks and wondering what other people are running for spring rates. They are remote reservoir shocks that I am going to be installing on the front of my bronco have a 5.0 Hanson bumper warn 9000 pound winch.

Re: 14in coil over spring rate.
one of the best ways to find this out is to weight your rig. the other way to do it is get some springs and find out how much they compress. than call someone like poly performance and with this info they will tell you what rates you want to run72 BRONCO,still building.

Re: 14in coil over spring rate.
I ordered my King 14" shocks from Filthy Motorsports and I talked to Ben who does so many coil over setups that he pretty much knows what valving and springs to start with before even looking at unsprung weights. I played with a spring rate calculator a little but I know Matt(Rockbronco67) is running 250/350 with a 50 lb tender coil above that. When I told Ben at Filthy that, he agreed that was a good setup for an old bronco so that's what I ordered but I haven't installed them yet. If your bronco is really heavy maybe step it up a little.SOLD: 1975 Ford Bronco: 105" wheelbase, King 14" c/o shocks, King 2" air bumps w/ Duff arms, 4 link rear w/ coils. Fuel injected 408W, ZF 5 speed/Atlas II(4.3) and Dana 60/70 axles with 5.13 gears and ARB's, 41.5/13.5R17 Pitbull Rockers on 17" Raceline Monsters.

Re: 14in coil over spring rate.
That's what I'm leaning to is 250-350 combo. My buddy is going to help me set them up and he wa as shooting from the hip and that's what he said. He sets up and builds rod halls trucks and a bunch of other teamsHave Truck, Trailer, and Bronco will travel

Re: 14in coil over spring rate.
I am in the process of adding CO (14" fr and rr) to mine as well. I have a question for the guys that are giving spring rates. with the rates you are using, do you have preload on the springs? I found a thread over on Pirate and by there calcs i come up with 200 over 250 with 2.5" of preload to have 7" up and 7" down front and 150 over 250 in the rear with 2" preload at 750 lbs per corner, so equal travel. This is with guessing 1050 lbs per corner. Thanks for any insight you give.Last edited by GWBronco; 02-15-2013, 07:10 AM.

Re: 14in coil over spring rate.
Yes, all springs need preload.
I've thought a lot about the amount or preload, I know one of the main guys (Wayne) like super light springs with 3-4 inches of preload. Other guys like a heavier spring with less, or the normal amount of preload (about an inch)Coil overs are very time consumingng to tune as there is no blanket of what works, it all depends on the rig, suspension setup, valving in the shock and drivingng style.Mark Harris

Re: 14in coil over spring rate.
Welndmn, Wayne's thread and clacs are the ones i am following on Pirate. a question for you, Will you tell me your weight so i can see how close my guess is? I am going to try and go to the dump tomorrow to see if they will let me weight mine to try to get real numbers. Sorry one more question, do you run a sway bar? With the weights you listed how is it on sidehills? Meaning how is your body roll.
