  • My new wildcat round; .270-08

    Here's how to make it:

    1. Take a fine shooting Winchester Classic long action rifle (Mid 90's vintage pre-64 claw extractor design) in .270 WIN.

    2. Hand it to your buddy because he wants to shoot it.

    3. Watch your buddy load it, not realizing that the round he grabs is actually a 7MM-08 short action case.

    4. Fire

    5. Smell something funny and notice small specks of blood on your buddy's face.

    6. Extract round and observe the newly fire-formed case with the primer blown out.

Note: 7MM bullets is .284 diameter, while .270 WIN is .277 diameter, a difference of 7 mils.

I was being a bit of a smart ass. Basically, the thing blew up in the gun.

Yikes... that's a little spooky! Glad your buddy (and everybody around him at the time) is okay. Got a picture of the gun?

This should serve as a reminder... wear your eye protection when shooting! Never know when a simple mistake like this can happen.

Ha, you would need balistic glass if it went bad, but yes always wear good eye wear, and not just 'sunglasses'

Probably true... but something's better than nothing. Plus I'm just paranoid about eye injuries from past (non gun-related) eye problems.
