  • Ammo Quality?

My new Ruger Single Ten pistol will not accept the Winchester 22 LR. The Remington rounds work just fine. Not likely to buy any more Winchester.

Henry, can you elaborate a little on what you mean by "will not accept"? Do they simply not fit into it?
My Ruger 10-22 was extremely picky with ammo when it was new. With use it's gotten to where it'll pretty reliably shoot and feed any .22lr round I put into it. Guns seems to "like" a certain brand for break-in, the challenge is sometimes finding that brand.

      Re: Ammo Quality?

Thanks for asking. This is my Ruger Single Ten. The Winchester 22 LR from several different new boxes bought at different times will not fit in the cylinder. Almost all of them, like over 90%, go in a little and get struck in the cylinder. They don't come out easy. The Remingtons fit fine. The gun is clean.

The Winchesters work fine in my 1946 Winchester 62A. Of course it is well used, but I doubt if that stainless steel cylinder on the pistol is going to "break in". Besides, it should be good to go. Make sense?

Gotcha. Weird... guess quality control has taken a dive in ammo production too. Agree that you're not going to break-in the cylinders. Very odd.

This is the first cylinder/chamber issue I've heard of that was round manufacturer specific. That a little weird, not to put the buck on ruger but it might not hurt to run the issue by them.

Henry, Another possibilty is the chamber needs a good wire brush cleaning. Some new guns have a packing grease that drys and creates fitment issues. I have seen it several times. It's a long shot because as you state one bullet fits but the other does not.

I second calling the manufacture as they might just want it back to service and correct.

              Now back to your adventure

Just read that Winchester has a recall on a lot of 22LR for over powdering. Maybe one in the same with fitment.

They go well in my Winchester 62A. Maybe I have to by Ruger ammo for the Ruger single ten. That would be even harder to find... like impossible.
