Count me in. I have a book "Aircraft Wrecks In the Mountains and Deserts of California" that has a blow by blow account of the crash.

Some of are club members ran Barrett a few years back. Some of them walked to part of the plane, but they did it all in one day

I'd love to see that wreck. For what it's worth, I've got 30 minutes of logged time in the B-17G Flying Fortress owned by the Experimental Aircraft Association (http://www.b17.org/), in the nose gunner's position. Talk about having a fire hose of history aimed at you. If you ever get the chance, do it.

If anyone's interested in aircraft stuff, here's something that showed up in my garage last week. Part of my latest project.

A big one. With wings. And the engine in front. Oh yeah, it's made of aluminum. Sorta like this.

My wife has flown in that very airplane. A good thing too, because she came out of it looking like she'd seen the face of God. She loved it, especially since all she'd experienced before were claustrophobic little Cessnas. Which for me means that she fully supports my folly.

So I take it this will be a summer trip?

Hey Guys, Don't mean to butt in here. This little get together sounds like a bunch of guys that know each other getting ready for a get together. If there might be room for a stranger or a guy that you don't know I would sure like to get in on this run. I Have been interested in this kinda of thing for years every sense I was stationed in the PI. At Subic Bay Naval Air Station in the Phillipines right in the middle of the harbour was this little Island. It was called Grande Island and in the 60's and 70's the only thing out there was an Enlisted Mens Club. During WWII however there had been an extensive anti aircraft Battery there. The old rusted up AA guns were still there and well as the refetments and concrete bunkers. It was a cool place to hang out at and dring a few San Mugoos. There were stories all of the time about some Jap planes having been shot down there during the war. I love this crap so I would go out and explore when i got the time. Over time I found this wierd directionaly compus with Jap writings all over it. I showed this to a lot of folks and finally found out that it was the Cpmpus off of a Jap Zero. I have no way of knowing if that is true or not but I still have the damn thing and it is today just as I picked it up all of those years ago on Grande Island. One other thing I found out there was this Engine Cylinder with no rod but the piston still in it, I showed this around as well still have the piston to this day and I am told it is the piston from a F4U Corsair. It is way cool as it was the reason this plane came down must have dropped a valve as it is beat all to hell. big sucker too must be at least a 5 or 6'" Bore.

Anyway if you guys have room for a new guy I sure would like to take this run.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in one pretty and well preserved piece, but to slide in broadside, worn out and throughly used up shouting "WOW" what a ride.

When I was there in 89-90 it was still a "Zero-Free Zone" Talking about the paygrade and not the aircraft. That's where I learned to dive; I spent a lot of time out there. Days like today....42degrees......I miss it even more.
