  • What is the "Best" Soft Top?

***Quick story about why I suddenly want a soft top ***

2 weeks ago my wife was diagnosed with a really rare for of Cancer called Choriocarcinoma. We are lucky as can be to have our Daughter who was born on Feb 9th. My wife was rushed thru 3 different doctors and finally to a specialist who put his 60 to 90 day waiting for new patients aside and got her in. She almost immediately started Chemotherapy. So once a week she is admitted for 24 hours to receive her treatments. We are dealing as best we can with all of this, including a new baby at home and our 9 year old son tryng to grasp this as well.

In trying to enjoy every good day that she has, we took the Bronco out for a spin this weekend. She loves riding in it, both kids prefer the bronco to any of our other cars. But my wife was really upset by the fact that the hard top will have to stay on this year. Brought her to tears and brought me to the realization that although I don't much care for look of the soft tops, I can appreciate the function more now than ever. Especially being able to zip out the windows.

So what is best out there? I searched and searched and searched i'm still confused.

I like the BC Bronco's the best for "looks" but I just can't afford $1300 for one.

The rampage tops look great. Can anyone tell me if all the windows zip in/out?

    Any others?

Thanks for the help guys, my brain is fried from all this, and just need some help putting together some opinions and options.

Why not pull the windows and tailgate off your hardtop and have some snap in plastic windows for when needed. I have been toying with doing this too.

hhmmmm........interesting....... I didn't think of doing something like that.

I think I know where there is a hardtop that no one is using, wonder if they guy would sell it and I could mod it into a hybrid top.

well, the soft top will never fit right. No matter how much money you throw into it.

That being said. A bestop or rampage from WH are the two that I would buy again. I have a bestop but I have noticed that the one WH makes is top notch.

Hope the family is doing well.

That's partially why I never wanted a softop. But I can now see the benefit of having one and being able to remove or reinstall the windows even on the same trip now.

So instead of lockers and a winch this season, it's a softtop and some creature comforts instead to help make her as comfortable as can be on those days where she has cabin fever and just needs to get out of the house.

Run with pops idea! Go to a shop that does marine canvas works. They can make you anything you want and it will fit better than anything you can buy. If your interested in the marine idea let me know I have a lady that's been making marine windows and top for almost 40 years she's great.

I HAVE SEEN IT DONE, kinda a hybred hard safari top. some have even cut every thing away except the rear corners but I don't know how much support that leaves. The soft top leaves it kinda Jeep looking I think. not that theres anything wrong with jeeps in there own world an such. its just a Bronco should look like a BRONCO!

I was thinking of doing the hard top only and rather than keep the corners - just tie it into my full cage - then do fabric/plastic window thing to enclose it. Post up pics if you find who has done this - I want to do something similar.

EXACTLY!!! That's why I am not a fan of the soft tops.

I've got wheels really spinning now, not need to find a decent top to start with so I don't have to mod my cherry one. hahaha

Re: What is the "Best" Soft Top?

I agree. I love the safari hard top look too. But in answer to one of your earlier questions, the side windows do zip out on both the Bestop and the Rampage.

I've had 2 different Kayline's now that have fit like a glove though, so don't have the same experience that others have had. And I've certainly seen my share of loose and saggy soft top installs over the years.

I don't necessarily feel the same way about them making Broncos look more Jeep-like. To me it still looks like a Bronco, soft top and all.

Definitely check out the classic thread. I think the guy ended up simply bolting the upper section to the roll cage without using any of the vertical panels for support. Seen a couple of them that looked real sharp.
I bet if you got creative you could even make the entire hard side and rear panels removable so you could put them back in for winter or security.

                      Good luck. On all fronts.

Re: What is the "Best" Soft Top?

I believe Bestop is black only while Rampage is black or white, if color matters. As far as looking like a Bronco, I think both the Bestop and Rampage still look classic Bronco. The BCB top, however, looks horrible. Makes a Bronco look Landrover-ish.

I have a Bestop and like the way it fits and looks when it's on. But really I prefer to run it topless and doorless.

                              GloNDark2,
I thought I had a hard top for you I found free on Craigslist yesterday. My dad and I picked it up, but it is way beyond repair. I've never seen a hard to in worse shape. Looks like it will be going to the recycler. We picked it up off the trailer and the sides startered to give way to rust and almost collapsed!
                              IT'S BAD!
