  • Home Depot Coupon follies

So I'm still on the compressor search, and had come across some mention of Home Depot taking Lowe's coupons as well as HF. I have a HF 20% coupon printed off the internet and a Lowe's 10% "real" coupon. I stopped in Home Depot and stopped at the service desk to ask if they would accept the HF coupon and they said yes.

Load it up, says I. The tool guy looked at like it was a 3$ bill but told me he would go get one and ring it up. After a long time the manager showed up and told me it was NFG due to being printed off the internet.

I explained to him that while I could respect their policy, I had now been in his store for 30 minutes being told it was good to go and already moved my truck to where I was told it would be loaded, so on and so on.

Just got home with it, $100 better off.

FWIW, if you go to the USPS and ask at the desk for a moving packet, there is a very good chance it has a Lowe's 10% off coupon in it that HD will accept with no grief at all. The HF coupon is for one item, the Lowe's is for your entire purchase from what I can tell. Going back tomorrow to get pipe, fittings and regulator at 10% off.

    Re: Home Depot Coupon follies

I was happy when Lowes came to Fairfield recently cause i hate HD. However, when trying to buy $1500 worth of product from the Fairfield store I was told that it was only in stock in Vallejo. The employee said i should drive to Vallejo to make the purchase because it was to much work for him and required extra paperwork. I said I would just go to HD and got no response. After buying from the Fairfield HD and having the order delivered to my rental house in Napa I was told only the Napa store could print the receipt because it was from their stock. So I had to drive to Napa for something that was purchased in Fairfield. This is mind boggeling customer service.

I have had a high success rate at Auto Zone asking for 10% off. I just BS with the guys a little, tell a joke. When they start to ring me up they and ask if there is anything else I say, "Yeah, 10% discount". Usually get it. They have a preferred customer option available.

I was just at HF today. They gave me a coupon for 25% off any one item good on easter weekend. If HD honors them, may be a good coupon to go get if you have a plan for a big purchase soon. New BBQ???

Depot often does the same 10% deal on the spot as well like Henry's experience at Auto Zone. One time I was buying an expensive tool I planned to use once or twice. When I asked the floor clerk if he had a cheaper alternative he immediately offered a spot discount, said he gets to do that a few times a week as he sees fit.

Another option, both HD and Lowes honor previous/ current military 10% discount. You just need a copy of your DD214 or I.D. I've also heard that they offer these discounts to LEO, EMT/Fire, but I haven't verified this.
